WIP: KuKMA - Kontakt und Koordinierungsstelle für Mädchen*arbeit im Land Brandenburg/ Frauenpolitischer Rat e.V.

The development of the website for the Kontakt- und Koordinierungsstelle für Mädchen*arbeit (KuKMA) focused on creating a dynamic and interactive platform that aligns with their mission of supporting gender-reflective work across Brandenburg. Built on the Sage 10 framework for WordPress, the project emphasized both scalability and maintainability, with Webpack serving as the build tool to streamline the development process.

A significant aspect of the site’s functionality was the integration of an ACF-powered custom post type system, which allowed for the development of a custom Leaflet map. This map provides users with an interactive view of various key locations throughout Brandenburg, including Beratungsstellen, Fortbildungsprogramme, Mädchentreffpunkte, and Landesweite Organisationen. Designed to facilitate easy access to resources and networking opportunities, this feature serves as a core element of the website's interactive nature.

The visual direction and UX/UI design, led by Susanne Beer, centered on creating an intuitive and visually cohesive experience that reflects KuKMA’s values of inclusivity and accessibility. The design leveraged TailwindCSS, ensuring that the website was responsive across all devices while maintaining a clean, modern look that complements the content. Special attention was paid to usability, making sure that professionals, policymakers, and the public could easily navigate and interact with the site's features.

From a technical standpoint, the site utilized Webpack’s efficient bundling capabilities alongside caching strategies that included APCu, OPcache, and mod

deflate and mod_brotli further optimized performance, reducing load times and ensuring that the website was accessible to users regardless of device or network speed.

On the backend, the use of WordPress with advanced custom fields allowed KuKMA staff to manage content with ease, while the modular design of the site ensured flexibility for future updates. This setup allowed the team to add or modify content, such as new locations or events, without needing significant development support.

Accessibility was a core concern throughout the project, with adherence to WCAG standards ensuring inclusivity. The site was also built with strong security measures in place, including SSL encryption and full compliance with GDPR requirements to protect user data. SEO optimization ensured the website was easily discoverable, enhancing its reach and impact.

The final product will be a comprehensive, interactive, and user-friendly platform that serves as a valuable tool for KuKMA’s work in gender-reflective advocacy and support. With its well-executed design, robust technical infrastructure, and focus on performance, the website offers a seamless experience for users, helping to foster collaboration and provide essential resources across Brandenburg.
